Up the Down Staircase: Face-First

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

When I go up, I come down hard. This time it was the front slate steps going to my front door. Rosa, Adelisa, and I had just finished packing my van with physical therapy play equipment that I am donating to Aiden’s preschool so all the kids can enjoy it. I was almost to the front door when my dropped left foot hung up on the step and I slammed my face into the slate. I have no handrails there. Will have to get some. Meanwhile, my plans for a stair-free home continue. Anyway, thanks so much to Adelisa, Rosa, Darren, Michele, Kevin, and the LaGrange Fire Dept. rescue folks for such caring and immediate help. I am so lucky to have Darren and Michele as neighbors! I ended up with 5 stitches, but before I left the ER, blood started pouring out again. I had sprung a leak! So then they tried to glue it shut, but I’m still oozing. Where’s my home makeover?  :-(

Read the story here.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: This hideous MF of a disease can strike anyone, anytime, anyplace.

More Time

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

I was just about to say “Now I will have more time to write, to organize, to take care of myself…” Then the bird clock in the kitchen whistled - yellow warbler - 10 AM. Pulled my dreaming thoughts back into my head. He’s somewhere now, doing something, feeling something, thinking something… and I am far away, unable to respond to him. Is he happy? Is he scared, frustrated, tired, hungry? Is he happy? Right now, out of my reach, out of my vision, is he okay?
